HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c406W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what have been the rates paid for the State retirement pension since 1945.

Mrs. Chalker

As to the standard rates of retirement pension payable to a man or woman on his or her own insurance and to a married woman on her husband's insurance from 5 July 1948 to the present time, I refer the hon. Member to table 13.01 on page 70 of "Social Security Statistics 1978", a copy of which is in the Library.

In 1945, the rate of old age pension payable to all three categories was 50p, which was increased from September 1946, to £1.30 for a man or woman on his or her own insurance and to 80p for a married woman on her husband's insurance.

The rates payable from 24 November this year will be £27.15 and £16.30 respectively.
