HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c421W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what statutory powers he possesses to control public assemblies; and if he will exercise them to prevent the parade of Nazis and neo-Fascists due to take place at the Cenotaph, Whitehall, on 9 November in deference to the families of those who died in the war against Fascism 1939–1945.

Mr. Brittan

None. The provisions of the Public Order Act 1936 about processions do not extend to assemblies.
