HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c419W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to be able to give effect to the proposed electoral arrangements for the county of Hampshire contained in the Local Government Boundary Commission for England report No. 397.

Mr. Brittan

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England submitted to my right hon. Friend its proposals for new electoral arrangements for Hampshire on 21 October. Under the Local Government Act 1972, my right hon. Friend cannot make an order giving effect to these proposals, with or without modifications, until after the expiry of six weeks from that date. He intends to make the order for Hampshire as soon as practicable after that period has elapsed.
