HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c482W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the statutory or other legally enforceable authority which sets out the requirement for water authorities to add fluoride to the public water supply on the request of area or regional health authorities.

Mr. Fox

Water authorities are not required by law to comply with such requests, but do so if practicable.

Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will issue guidance to the water authorities not to commence new foundation schemes until the judgment has been delivered in the case of McColl v. Strathclyde water authority.

Mr. Fox

No. I do not consider that it would be appropriate to do so.
