HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c436W
Mr. Field

asked the Lord Privy Seal if Her Majesty's Government will consider re-opening the British Embassy in Managua and set a firm date for sending out a resident ambassador to Nicaragua, in view of the present critical situation in Central America and its direct impact on the British colony of Belize.

Mr. Ridley

The possibility of reopening an embassy in Managua must be considered in the light of the economies to which we are already committed, and the continuing pressure on public expenditure levels. In the meantime, Her Majesty's Ambassador in Costa Rica is also accredited to Nicaragua and covers our interests there.
