§ Mr. David HowellThe number of staff provided for in Main Estimates on 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1980 was 1,340 and 1,305, respectively. The number of staff actually in post on those dates was404W 1,267 and 1,263. All but a few of the vacancies were in the Department's London headquarters and were in the typing, clerical and petroleum specialist grades.
