§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will give for the longest and most convenient stated period of time the costs of the various Clegg Commissions of inquiry; and how much in fees, expenses or other payments the members received either individually or collectively.
§ Mr. Jim LesterIn the year ending 31 March 1980 the estimated cost of the work of the Standing Commission on pay comparability was about £700,000. This includes the salaries and expenses of commission members—about £28,500—the cost of the commission's secretariat and work undertaken by management consultants and the Civil Service pay research unit on the commission's behalf. The costs of implementing the commission's recommendations were given in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Northampton, North (Mr. Marlow) on 14 May.—[Vol. 984, c. 485–6.]
