HC Deb 23 May 1980 vol 985 cc377-8W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Prime Minister, pursuant to her statement of 13 May on Civil Service cuts, how these will affect (a) the nuclear installations inspectorate, (b) the local offices of the Department of Health and Social Services, (c) the Department of Industry and (d) the Department of Employment; and if she will state the specific reductions in each.

The Prime Minister

We intend to achieve a Civil Service numbering about 630,000 through a combination of savings which have already been announced and further reductions. The details of the savings announced by my right hon. and noble Friend the Lord President of the Council on 6 December were listed by Department in theOfficial Report.—[Vol. 975, c. 637—40.] Ministers are now drawing up their plans for further reductions and it is too early to give details of where these will fall.
