§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister for the Civil Service, in view of the fact that public transport and taxis pass the office doors of all of the London ministerial offices and the various railway stations, why top civil servants are permitted to use the Government car service to collect them from their offices and to and from the railway stations when starting and leaving their day's work; and whether, in support of the Government's economy cuts, he will cease this practice forthwith.
§ Mr. ChannonThis facility which is available to only a minute proportion of civil servants saves time and contributes to efficient working. To withdraw it would not be a contribution to overall economy.
