HC Deb 21 May 1980 vol 985 cc263-4W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many physically handicapped persons require sheltered dwellings in each of the Belfast and South Eastern housing districts; and how many families require housing suitable for physically handicapped persons in the same districts.

Mr. Goodhart

This information is not available in the form requested. The Northern Ireland Housing Executive provides special accommodation on the basis of demand. Need and demand do not equate because of the reluctance in many instances of elderly or handicapped people to ask for specially adapted accommodation.

The voluntary organisation, Outset, has carried out a survey to identify the needs of the handicapped in Northern Ireland and the final results will be made available to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
