HC Deb 21 May 1980 vol 985 c246W
34. Mr. Dickens

asked the Minister of Transport if he will carry out an inquiry into unauthorised deletions of records held on the computer at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing centre, Swansea.

Mr. Fowler

The security of computer records at the DVLC is regularly scrutinised both within my Department and by Government experts in computer frauds. A few isolated clerical attempts to make unauthorised changes to driver licence records have been detected in the past, but I understand that electronic tampering is not feasible. If my hon. Friend will let me have his evidence of criminal activity involving DVLC's computer records, I will investigate immediately.
