HC Deb 21 May 1980 vol 985 cc230-1W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the evidence that he has received suggests that many local authorities are not fulfilling their statutory obligations under section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act.

Mr. Prentice

No.

Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the Association of County Councils has withdrawn its proposal to repeal section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970; whether there are any plans to amend the Act to lessen the statutory obligations of local authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prentice

The association has not pursued with me its proposal that section 2 of the 1970 Act should be made discretionary. I have no present plans to amend the section.
