HC Deb 21 May 1980 vol 985 c211W
Mr. Paul Dean asked

the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an estimate of the financial benefit to charities in the next financial year as a result of the measures proposed in the Budget.

Mr. Peter Rees

I regret that a firm estimate is not possible. It will depend on the extent to which the new reliefs—higher rate relief for covenanted gifts and the increase in the capital transfer tax exemption limit for bequests—stimulate increased gifts and bequests to charities.
