Mr. Raceasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will introduce measures to ensure that all higher educational institutions comply with the national rates of pay established by the joint manual and ancillary committee of the Central Council for University Non-Teaching Staffs.
§ Dr. BoysonNo. Universities are autonomous and it is for any university or university college concerned to decide whether or not to adopt the rates of pay established by the committee. The position of manual staff in other higher education institutions varies but the rates of pay agreed in the committee would not necessarily be appropriate.
