§ Mr. Rentonasked the Prime Minister whether she will discuss at the European Council in Venice revisions in the Treaty of Rome to deal with fundamental reform of the common agricultural policy, and the problems caused to that policy by the enlargement of the Community.
§ The Prime MinisterThe improvement of the common agricultural policy inevitably underlies discussions on other topics, in particular Britain's contribution to the budget, but I do not expect it to be a specific item on the agenda at the next European Council. Satisfactory reform of the policy would not need changes in the Treaty of Rome.
