§ Mr. Rifkindthe information given below relates to the period from 1 April 1956 (when my Department assumed responsibility for trunk roads and motorways in Scotland) to 31 March 1984 (the latest year in the Government's recently published expenditure plans (Cmnd. 7841)). Figures are not readily available for years prior to 1956.
