§ Mr. Hoosonasked the Miniser of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what would be the saving to the British consumer over a year if all non-temperate agricultural products were purchased at world prices.
§ Mr. WigginNon-temperate agricultural products, defined as tropical products which are not grown in temperate regions such as tea, coffee, cocoa, bananas, and certain oils and oil seeds, are purchased on the basis of world prices, subject in some cases to Customs duties the incidence of which on the consumer cannot readily be calculated. In the case of cane sugar the world price fluctuates above and below the intervention price for raw sugar and is currently above it.
