§ Mr. David MitchellThe Department is in contact with a number of Japanese companies which have expressed provisional interest in investing in the United Kingdom. When these companies are considering a joint venture, this can represent a valuable opportunity for British business men. We are limited by the confidential nature of most of the information given to us, but we try to make suitable introductions on a case by case, basis. In this area as in many others, the Government are keen to assist small firms, whilst recognising that the key factor in taking advantage of commercial opportunities must always be private entrepreneurial activity.
