HL Deb 15 May 1980 vol 409 cc448-50WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list grants available to industry for energy conservation purposes and in addition whether they will state which grants have been or are to be withdrawn.

The MINISTER of STATE, DEPARTMENT of INDUSTRY (Viscount Trenchard)

Under the Energy Conservation Scheme grants of 25 per cent. are available from the Department of Industry for replacing or modernising inefficient boiler plant, for the insulation of industrial or commercial premises and for certain combined heat and power systems. Entry to the scheme ends in June 1980. Departments of Energy and Industry co-sponsor the Energy Conservation Demonstration Project Scheme. Grants of up to 25 per cent. are available towards the capital costs of selected projects demonstrating signficant energy savings through the adoption of new technology or existing technology in new environments and capable or substantial replication.

The Department of Energy's Energy Survey Scheme provides an initial subsidy of up to £75 towards the costs, exclusive of VAT, of a one-day energy survey of industrial, commercial or public sector premises by an accredited consultant. The Scheme also provides a 50 per cent. subsidy for approved reviews of a more detailed nature of overall energy usage. Industrial research and development pro- jects concerning energy conservation may be considered for financial support including grants by DOI under PPDS, MAP and the requirements boards and by DEn under its energy research budget.
