HC Deb 15 May 1980 vol 984 c637W
Q25. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister what initiatives Her Majesty's Government have taken in response to the proposal of the Brandt commission, page 248, that a globally respected peacekeeping mechanism should be built up, strengthening the role of the United Nations, which, in securing the integrity of States, might free resources for development through a sharing of military expenditures and a reduction in areas of conflict and the arms race.

The Prime Minister

The Brandt commission was an independent body which presented a report to the United Nations Secretary-General. Her Majesty's Government have no plans to take an initiative on the Commission's proposal for a peace keeping mechanism.
