HL Deb 14 May 1980 vol 409 cc355-6WA
Lord CHELWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether there is now sufficient agreement in the European Community to enable a long overdue initiative to be taken to solve the Arab-Israeli dispute; and for an assurance that this will not be long delayed since the Camp David accord no longer offers the Palestinian people the prospect of self-determination.

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS (Lord Carrington)

We have no wish to undermine the Camp David process, the possibilities of which are still being explored. We are discussing with our European partners how we might best contribute to the search for a settlement. The European Council will be considering this at their meeting in June.
