§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Defence if, in view of the equipment failures, he remains satisfied with the reliability of United States helicopters for possible purchase by Her Majesty's Government, in the light of recent events in Iran.
§ Mr. PattieThe only United States helicopter featuring in current United Kingdom defence plans is the Boeing-Vertol Chinook and this aircraft was not used in the incident to which my hon. Friend refers. Thirty-three Chinooks equipped with United Kingdom avionics, are on order for the RAF. I have every confidence that this tried and tested aircraft will prove a very useful asset to the RAF.
