asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people were employed in the following industries in Northern Ireland in 1979 as an average for the year: man-made fibres production, spinning, doubling and weaving and filament yarn processing, woollen and worsted, knitting, carpets, finishing, clothing and other textile sectors.

The latest available information for the sectors requested has been published in theDepartment of Manpower Services Gazette No. 3 1979. The information in the Gazette has been compiled from the June 1978 census of employment.

The estimated figures from a quarterly sample survey for 1979 are available in totals only for each sector as shown below:
