HC Deb 09 May 1980 vol 984 cc296-8W
Mr. Dickens

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider a study of electronic surveil lance equipment currently on sale, with a view to determining whether a licensing system is necessary to protect the privacy of the individual.

Mr. Whitelaw

I have no plans to do so. The unlicensed use of radio for surveillance, however, is prohibited, and the importation and manufacture of radio surveillance equipment operating certain frequencies are controlled, under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts 1949 and 1967.
