HC Deb 08 May 1980 vol 984 cc204-5W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what guidance he issues to chief constables on special training for police duties on picket lines; whether such training is included at police colleges; whether it will be extended; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brittan

Responsibility for training within a force rests with the chief officer of police. Home Office guidance recommends training of probationers in handling trade disputes.

Courses at police training centres and the Police Staff College, Bramshill, include aspects of public order and crowd control.
