HC Deb 06 May 1980 vol 984 cc52-3W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a table showing progress since 1971 towards the objectives of the White Paper, " Better Services for the Mentally Handicapped " for places in adult training centres, giving statistics for each county in Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The table below gives the number of places per 100,000 population at adult training centres in the Welsh counties at 31 March 1979:

Clwyd 98.7
Dyfed 97.5
Gwent 109.6
Gwynedd 86.6
Mid Glamorgan 100.4
Powys 94.3
South Glamorgan 70.0
West Glamorgan 70.9

Because of the change in county boundaries as a result of local government reorganisation it is not possible to provide comparative figures for 1971.

The number of places per 100,000 population in Wales at 31 March 1979 was 91.8. This compares with 57.2 at 31 December 1970. The 1971 White Paper specified 150 places as the objective to be attained over a period of 15 or 20 years.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total number of places available in local authority residential accommodation for mentally handicapped persons for each county of Wales for each of the years 1974 to the latest available date.

Mr. Wyn Roberts
