§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what latest estimate he has made of the cost, at April 1980 prices, of redeveloping Hampden Park.
(2) what facilities at Hampden Park were not covered by the redevelopment estimate of some £11 million; and what is his extra estimate, at current prices of redeveloping these facilities up to the required standard;
(3) further to his answer to the hon. Member for Aberdeen, South regarding Government participation in the redevelopment of Hampden Park, if he will now give an assurance that no money whatsoever will be spent on such redevelopment until he has received a guarantee that 50 per cent. of the money, or the balance between the Government's £5.5 million and the actual cost, is available in full.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherThe preliminary estimate in April 1978 of the cost of redevelopment at Hampden Park, including the refurbishment of the South Stand, was £11 million. After detailed design work had been carried out76W Hampden Park Ltd concluded that this work, together with improvements to the original concept which they considered to be necessary, would cost about £16 million at April 1978 prices. Since the Government were not prepared to make a grant of more than £5.5 million, the company prepared a revised scheme, estimated to cost £11.3 million, which did not include the south stand; the cost of work on this stand was estimated at £3.5 million. The latest estimate of the total cost of the revised scheme, based on the forecast figures of the standard index, is in the region of £17.7 million. As regards the balance between the grant and the total cost, I am not at present able to add anything to the reply which I gave to my hon. Friend on 21 April.—[Vol. 983, c. 58.]
