HC Deb 02 May 1980 vol 983 cc702-3W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what mechanism there is to ensure that oil companies do not export North Sea crude oil to South Africa.

Mr. Gray

The companies are fully aware of the Government's policy on the export of North Sea oil, of which I informed the House on 24 May 1979—Vol. 967, c.185—and which remains unchanged. The Government have regular discussions with companies about the disposal, including the export, of their North Sea oil.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if there is an embargo on the export of British refined oil products to South Africa.

Mr. Gray

There are no destination restrictions imposed on the export of refined petroleum products.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether oil companies, engaged in exporting North Sea crude oil, exchanged some of these supplies for non-embargoed third country oil for supply to South Africa since July 1979.

Mr. Gray

The Government's policy on the export of North Sea oil was made clear in my statement of 24 May 1979—Vol. 967, c. 755. The Government do not have comprehensive information on the details of commercial arrangements made by companies outside the United Kingdom.
