HC Deb 02 May 1980 vol 983 cc697-8W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what study he has made of the paper prepared by the National Union of Students on provision for handicapped students in colleges and universities, a copy of which has been sent to him; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Boyson

The paper my Department has recently received is a revised version of the list mentioned in the answer to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Exeter (Mr. Hannam) on Tuesday 4 March of establishments which can offer residential facilities to those with mobility problems. As I said on that occasion, such matters are within the discretion of individual establishments and I am glad to see that those listed are able to make some provision. I remain confident that more, if approached, will continue to consider whether they can, within the available resources, offer appropriate residential, teaching and communal facilities for handicapped students.—[Vol. 980, c. 165–66.]
