§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Defence how many signalmen of British Armed Forces and general Army personnel were present on the Anglo-American base at Diego Garcia on Thursday 24 April.
§ Mr. PymThe only British forces on Diego Garcia island on 24 April were the 25 members of the naval party referred to by my right hon. Friend the Lord Privy Seal in his reply of 29 November—Vol. 974, c. 1495–96—and one additional petty officer, by whose post the previous establishment had been increased. These personnel are permanently stationed at Diego Garcia, and they include eight radio operator and communications engineers.
