§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether there is any reason, other than cash limits, why he regards the possession of a degree as an essential qualification for a grant in respect of courses leading to the certificate of qualification in social work.
§ Sir George YoungA degree is not generally an essential qualification for grant-aided students aiming at the certificate of qualification in social work, and about half of CQSW course places are for non-graduates. The Department awards grants to graduates on suitable courses. Non-graduates can apply for grants to their local education authorities. In addition, a significant number of both graduates and non-graduates are supported through secondment from their employers.
