asked the Lord Privy Seal what is the percentage of the 1978–79, 1979–80, 1980–81 aid programme, made available to the aid-trade contingency fund; and what were the amounts spent in 1978–79 and 1979–80.

The percentage of the gross aid programme allocated to the aid and trade provision at the beginning of the financial years 1978–79 and 1979–80 was 3.22 and 4.25, respectively.

The corresponding figure for 1980–81 is 4.3. Expenditure against the provision in 1978.79 was £12.137 million and the estimated expenditure for 1979.80 was £2968 million.

In addition, since May 1979 approval has been given to eight new offers of support from the ATP, totalling £25.15 million, for projects in Burma, Colombia, Cyprus, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and Mexico. These, and a further 12 offers approved before May 1979, are still under consideration by the Governments concerned.
