HC Deb 25 March 1980 vol 981 cc472-3W
Q20. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Prime Minister if she is satisfied with the administrative co-ordination between the Department of Health and Social Security and the Department of the Environment concerned with the elimination of fraudulent practices in rebates and social security payments.

Sir Keith Joseph

I have been asked to reply.

The day-to-day administration of the rent rebate, rent allowance and rate rebate schemes is the responsibility of local authorities, not the Department of the Environment. My right hon. Friend is satisfied with the co-ordination between local authorities and Department of Health and Social Security local offices, but if the hon. Member has any particular problems in mind perhaps he will let my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services have the details.
