HC Deb 24 March 1980 vol 981 c443W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr, Official Report, 29 February, column 757, he will give his estimate of the numbers of persons removed from the pay-as-you-earn scheme if the allowances were increased to the figures in his answer, stating the assumptions used in respect of earnings.

Mr. Peter Rees

asked At 1979–80 income levels and tax allowances, some 1½ million taxpayers would be taken out of income tax by the specified changes in allowances. The proportion of these persons who are in PAYE schemes is not known, but it is likely to be substantial.
