§ 44. Mr. Bowdenasked the Minister of Transport if he will allow British Railways to negotiate flexible agreements with major customers in the private sector in regard to the leasing, hiring and financing of railway wagons.
§ Mr. FowlerIt is the policy of the British Railways Board to encourage customers to provide their own wagons wherever this would be suitable in relation to the traffic to be carried. The board is not concerned with the arrangements for financing in these circumstances. Provision also exists, in certain cases, for Government grant towards the cost of privately owned wagons.
