§ Mr. William Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether any children under the age of 13 years are employed and paid as classroom cleaners by Kent county council; if so, what action he proposes to take; and what is his policy on the paid employment of children in such jobs.
§ Dr. BoysonI understand that no child under 13 is being employed and no action by my Department or by the Department of Health and Social Security is therefore necessary. The policy of my right hon. and learned Friend in this matter is to look to local authorities to apply the relevant provisions of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 and any byelaws made under that Act.
