HC Deb 18 March 1980 vol 981 cc172-3W
23. Mr. Butcher

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of job vacancies available in England and Wales on the most recent date for which figures are available.

Mr. Jim Lester

At 8 February the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled at employment offices and careers offices were 160, 168 and 17,317, respectively.

The statistics relate only to those notified to employment offices and careers offices; vacancies notified to employment offices are estimated to be about one-third of all vacancies in the country as a whole. Because of possible duplication the figures for employment offices and careers offices should not be added together.
