HC Deb 17 March 1980 vol 981 cc55-6W
Mr. Woolmer

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether the European Commission has yet reached a decision on the recently completed study by Kurt Salmon and Associates on apparel assembly techniques; if the Government and industry associations will be consulted on that report; and if he will give details of any other research studies initiated by the Commission on wool textiles and clothing since January 1979.

Mr. David Mitchell

[pursuant to his reply, 13 March 1980]: I understand that the Commission has received this study but no proposals resulting from the study's recommendations have yet been put to the Council of Ministers. However, if the study is to lead on to a programme of research by the Community, a decision of the Council will be required and Governments of member States will be consulted. It has been the practice of the Commission in the past to consult representatives of industry when drawing up an industrial research programme.

I have no knowledge of any other research studies initiated by the Commission on wool textiles and clothing since January 1979.
