HC Deb 14 March 1980 vol 980 c733W
Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the total amount collected under the existing arrangements for road traffic accidents, payments for treatment in England and Wales, prior to the new order; what was the cost of collection; and what part of the total is derived from the charges for emergency treatment.

Sir George Young

Income during the financial year 1978–79 was £1.5 million in England and Wales. The cost of collection is not known; however, in 1977 the Association of Health Service Treasurers estimated that it was some £0.6 million per annum in England—income then was £1.3 million. The contribution to income made by the emergency treatment fee is not available from information held centrally.
