HC Deb 14 March 1980 vol 980 c726W
Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the allocation under the housing investment programme for Merthyr Tydfil for 1980–81; and how this compares with (a) the bid made by Merthyr Tydfil borough and (b) the allocation for 1979–80 in actual and real terms, taking into account inflation.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Merthyr Tydfil borough council was originally allocated under the previous Administration £3.92 million at outturn prices for 1979–80. We increased this to £4.7 million in January 1980 to meet the authority's latest forecast of its requirements for the year. The council has been allocated £3.61 million for 1980–81. Compared with the original allocation for 1979–80 the 1980–81 allocation shows a reduction of 8 per cent. in actual terms and 27 per cent. in real terms.

I refer the hon. Member to my reply on 14 January to the hon. Member for Merioneth (Mr. Thomas) regarding the confidentiality of housing investment programmes.—[Vol. 976, c. 622.]
