HC Deb 14 March 1980 vol 980 c740W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Energy by what year he expects the first nuclear power plant in the programme announced on 18 December 1979 to begin supplying electricity to the national grid; and how the cost of this electricity is expected to compare at that time with the electricity generated by non-nuclear power plants.

Mr. Norman Lamont

I am advised by the CEGB that the first nuclear power plant in the programme announced on 18 December 1979 is planned to begin supplying electricity to the national grid in 1989–90. The cost of electricity from this plant is expected to be cheaper per kWh than that from a conventional power station ordered at the same time.
