HL Deb 14 March 1980 vol 406 cc1397-8WA
Lord HOUGHTON of SOWERBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the growing industry of deer farming is being watched by the Farm Animals Welfare Council with a view to identifying and dealing with new problems relating to intensive methods, especially over-crowding, the removal of antlers, and antlers in velvet and humane slaughter.

Earl FERRERS

The Council intends to review the welfare of farmed deer. I understand that its advice on the removal of deer antlers in velvet will be given to the Agriculture Ministers very shortly.
