HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 cc642-3W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Prime Minister if, pursuant to the recommendation of the "Report on Non-Departmental Public Bodies", future advisory committees established by the Government will be set up with a finite remit or with a finite lease of life.

The Prime Minister

Both limitations will be the general rule.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Prime Minister if any decision has yet been taken about the future of the 200 advisory committees mentioned in paragraph 28 of the "Report on Non-Departmental Public Bodies", Cmnd. 7797.

The Prime Minister

No. Consultations on the future of these advisory committees are still in progress and will be completed as soon as possible.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Prime Minister if she will list those bodies whose future is still being reviewed, pursuant to paragraph 26 of the "Report on Non-Departmental Public Bodies", Cmnd. 7797.

The Prime Minister

This information is given in part two of the report.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Prime Minister if the Treasury and Civil Service Department are now consulted by other Departments before the establishment of all new fringe bodies, pursuant to the recommendation of the "Report of Non-Departmental Public Bodies."

The Prime Minister

Yes. As indicated in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Carlton (Mr. Holland) on 16 January, the Government accepted this and other general recommendations in the report.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Prime Minister what action she has taken to ensure that the reports and accounts of fringe bodies include full information of the remuneration and expenses of the chairman and members of the governing bodies and on other matters as recommended in the "Report on Non-Departmental Public Bodies", Cmnd. 7797.

The Prime Minister

As indicated in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Carlton (Mr. Holland) on 16 January, these recommendations were accepted and departmental Ministers are taking steps to implement them in respect of the appropriate non-departmental bodies in their fields of responsibility.
