HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c646W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what measures are employed by Her Majesty's Agricultural Inspectorate to monitor those sectors where 2,4,5,-T is possibly applied.

Mr. Mayhew

Her Majesty's agricultural inspectors carry out annually some 33,000 visits in agriculture and forestry in Great Britain. In the course of these inspections they pay regard to the provisions of the pesticide safety precautions scheme (PSPS) when considering a system of work for the safe use of a pesticide in relation to the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974.

In addition, all complaints arising from pesticide spraying operations and cases of suspected pesticide poisoning are investigated by the inspectorate, which takes any necessary statutory action. Full details of all investigations are notified to the PSPS secretariat.
