HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c659W
Mr. Ancram

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations he has received since 3 May 1979 relating to parents whose requests for transfer for their children to schools of their choice have been turned down by the Lothian region education committee.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

Since 3 May 1979, 27 complaints have been received from parents whose requests for a secondary school of their choice were refused initially by Lothian regional council's transfer committee; of this figure, four were later granted. In the same period 25 complaints were also received about the transfer committee's refusal to grant parents their choice of primary school; one request was later granted.
