HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c715W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if, in view of the potential benefits and importance to the mentally handicapped in North-East Wales of the new behaviour modification unit at Broughton hospital, Deeside, Clwyd, he will authorise funds to enable the newly completed unit to operate from the £0.2 million allocated for the whole of Wales for the further development of mental health services.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

It is too early, both for Clwyd Area health authority and the Welsh Office, to reach a conclusion on how the operation of this unit might be funded. I cannot at this stage give the hon. Member the assurance he seeks.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the cost of the new behaviour modification unit at Broughton hospital, Deeside, Clwyd; and how many children it would cater for and how many extra staff the unit would need if in operation.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

£239,000. The new unit will provide 12 residential and 10 day places. Clwyd health authority estimates that it will require about 25 additional staff.
