Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what are the totals of administrative personnel employed in Government Ministries in the current year and in 1979.

Mr. Channon

Total administrative personnel in post in the Home Civil Service are given below:

1 January 1979	345,000
1 January 1980	330,000

Notes:

1. The 1st January 1980 figures are provisional.

2. Diplomatic Service staff are excluded.

3. The numbers of administrative personnel shown comprises the administration group local officers I and II in the social security category. Inland Revenue collection service and chief inspector's branch grades, and the open structure.

4. Part-timers are counted as half units.
