HC Deb 12 March 1980 vol 980 cc589-90W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) how many word-processors are currently in use in the United Kingdom; and how this compares with the figures for France, West Germany, the United States of America and Japan;

(2) what proportion of word-processors in use in the United Kingdom are British made; and what steps he is taking to encourage British production.

Mr. David Mitchell

[pursuant to his reply, 5 March 1980, c. 225]: This information is not available from officially collected statistics in which word-pro- cessors are not separately identified, primarily because of definitional problems.
