Mr. Straw

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) when the Office of Population Censuses and Survey completed the survey of vacant properties which commenced in 1977;

(2) on what date his Department first received the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys' survey on vacant properties;

(3) what are the principal finds of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys' survey of empty properties;

(4) on what date he proposes to publish the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys' survey of empty properties.

The Office of Population Censuses and Surveys completed work on the survey of vacant properties within the last three weeks. The final report was received in the Department on 26 February and it will be published as soon as possible. The findings of the survey are described fully in the report. As I said in Standing Committee F yesterday, I will do my best to expedite publication and will investigate whether this report could be available for the report stage of the Housing Bill.
