HC Deb 12 March 1980 vol 980 c593W
Mr. Buchan

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average annual number of industrial disease compensation awards made to rubber tyre industry workers affected by cancers of the bladder, lungs and stomach.

Mr. Prentice

The information is not available in the form requested. However, figures can be given for industrial injuries claims by workers in the rubber manufacturing industry for prescribed disease number 39—primary neoplasm of the epithelial lining of the urinary bladder—papilloma of the bladder—or of the renal pelvis or of the ureter or the urethra. Between 1975 and 1978, the latest date for which figures are available, there was an annual average of two new injury benefit and four industrial death benefit claims for PD 39, together with one award under the Pneumoconiosis, Byssinosis and Miscellaneous Diseases Benefit Scheme.
